    Default Table saw recommendations...again...Harvey HW110LGE-30??

Yes, I know this has been asked before and has probably been done to death...(I know because I've spent plenty of time reading through all of the great threads on the subject here)... but in the event that there may be new news or advice on the subject, I just have to ask again......what table saws would you recommend as a "long-term table saw"?

I'm looking for a new table saw, an upgrade from my previous HAFCO SB12 saw, and one which suits use of a dado set and which should last me through and be the last one that I need to buy.

I don't have an unrestricted budget but would rather pay a few dollars more for the right saw than be disappointed with limited capability and any annoying attributes (such as the ridiculous pain the neck difficulty that the HAFCO presented in squaring the blade and changing blades)....so I guess maybe up to $2k or $2.5k...ish...

Having said that, I do have a very good Minimax S400 band saw so I have quite a few cutting bases covered there and don't think I need to go as pricey or as "high end" as that for the table saw.

After reading through threads on the same topic here, I'm most recently quite interested in the Harvey HW110LGE-30 and see them available at the moment for $1999.00 (plus delivery).

What are the forum opinions on these saws?? What I've read here all seems quite positive and value for money, so what are the negatives with these machines?

Is there a better buy or a more preferred option to the Harvey saws?

I've pretty much ruled out the Minimax Sawstop (I feel it's overpriced) and I've had a negative experience with a Laguna bandsaw (very poor quality construction so returned and changed for the Minimax) so am a little shy of the likes of Laguna Fusion or Laguna Platinum saw based on that experience......however haven't completely ruled them out...

    Your thoughts?

Laguna Platinum is great - had it for over a year - do not have anything else that I would wish for a saw, very precise and repeatable, especially with Wixey digital readout. Apparently Harvey is made on the same factory as Laguna, I looked at Harvey it at the wood show, and the mechanical quality seems identical. It is just the overall paint scheme is a bit 'cheap'

What Ilya said. Although I did have an initial problem with a stiff blade rise and fall, however, once this was sorted everything has been great. Harvey would definitely be worth a look.

What did you do to fix the stiff blade rise and fall? Mine is pretty stiff

    Thanks for the comments guys.

But does anyone here have the Harvey and has used it for for long enough to make any objective comment about it? - Good and bad?

At about $700.00 less than the Laguna it seems more attractive if it is much the same quality as the Laguna as Ilya suggests.

    Hi Charlie,

I could not figure out what was causing the trouble so I called Dean Ludgen who Is the tech. for Gregory's in Victoria. If your's is the same problem you should be able to fix it yourself. Because he wasn't sure Dean removed the table to get a better look and found that the arm that runs from the front of the saw and holds the riving knife was poorly adjusted so that the two gear wheels were not meshing properly. I think you could probably get to the adjustment just by removing the blade plate - the adjustment is at the front of the saw.

I have attached a link to the Grizzly G0690 which is the same saw but has a proper manual which you can download.

    https://www.grizzly.com/products/10-...ng-Knife/G0690

    Hope this helps,

    cheers

    Larks

I have the HB30 model and can not fault it.

Wished I bought the bigger brother as I now have my own house and have wired my garage for 15amp so could run one now.

I have post a review on my machine and assume you have read it. I have had no problems with mine and run a dado on it with out problems.

I can only praise the machine and do not have anything negative to say about it.

Feel free to contact me if you want more information etc.

    Regards

Thanks for the response Grant, it's very encouraging to hear that you're still so pleased with it quite a few months down the track.

I had read your review and it was one that had put me down the path of looking at the Harvey (I think I may even have been the first to respond when you posted it).

No problems mate. Buying my first saw was a lot harder than it should have been. Hell I have bought cars with less effort than I put into picking my saw.

All I did was go around in circles with what machine I wanted. Just but what feels right for you. I can't comment on the other brands but as long as you go for a known brand name then you can't really go wrong. Saying this I am extremely tempted to upgrade my saw to the bigger brother Harvey, that's how impressed with the saw I am. If I was able to sell my current saw for the right price then I would be getting a new one.

I just bought a Harvey HW110LGE-30 a couple of weeks ago. First off, not sure where you have found it for $1999- but I would buy that asap for that price. I paid $2590- locally without delivery and would pay this again.

This saw, and the Laguna Platinum are made by Harvey in the Harvey machinery factory. Harvey is the parent company. Laguna just re-badge the saw. My understanding (from speaking with Laguna distributors and others) is that the saws are identical aside from the Arbor size (laguna is 5/8" and Harvey is 30mm) and the fence on the Harvey has an aluminium extrusion attached whereas the Laguna has a nylon plate. I actually prefer the larger Arbor, however some blades (like the Forrest King Dado stack and Freud combination) only appear to be available in the 5/8" size.

Good advice Dom, so I did buy it.....though about 12 months ago, (which probably accounts for the price difference).

    Question Which SawStop?

    Hi Centron-sg1,

Which model of SawStop would you compare with the Harvey?

I’m looking at buying a new table saw. I am near Adelaide so I can get the SawStop from Carbatec but the SawStop Professional Cabinet Saw starts at $4399. This compares with the Harvey 110 which starts at about $2300 from Timberwork for the 2HP model, or $2575 from Major Woodworking Equipment for the 3HP model.

The big attraction of SawStop of course is the safety. However this comes at nearly twice the price.

Can anyone here recommend where to buy the Harvey (e.g. with good experiences in pre- & after-sales experiences)?

    Thanks for your advice!
