Thread: Table saw problem with threaded rod.

Just wondering if anyone can offer me any help? I have a generic "Sher" brand 10" contractor's saw (model SB-10 or MJ2325G) that I bought second hand.

The saw works great, but today when I needed to do a 45 degree cut, I noticed that the angle adjustment hand-wheel was very tight. I cleaned out the saw with compressed air and greased up the threaded rod that does the angle adjustment but it made no difference.

I noticed that the threaded rod has a 'ball' on one end that locks into the cabinet via a bracket on the inside and a flange on the outside. This ball is fixed on the threaded rod and as you turn the hand-wheel, the ball turns in the cabinet. The problem is that this is metal on metal contact, and has made the wheel hard to turn. After messing around with it, the ball appears to have worn down, which has allowed it to pop through the retaining bracket and into the cabinet. This has left the hand-wheel loose and the rod flops around when you try and turn the wheel.

I have attached a picture of the parts in question. The parts are 22 & 23. The hand-wheel isn't shown but goes on the RHS of 22. Has anyone else had this problem and is there an easy fix or modification I can do? Or somewhere I can get spare parts.....I'm located in Melbourne, VIC.
