Table Saw Top
Forumites,
Looking to tap into the wealth of knowledge......
I have a JET JTAS 10XL. Its about nine months old. I've just started re-using it after a good break due to christmas, new years etc etc.
I've notice something that I'm not sure if it is something that has always been this way....
On the two cast iron extension wings, you can see teh faint outline of the supporting ribs underneath.
I've called the place I purchased the saw - who told me that this is sometimes a legacy of the cast iron tempering process.
I've checked for flatness - still perfectly flat.....
I sent an e-mail to Jet Australia - who asked me to take a photo so they could send to the manufacturer - the problem I'm having is that it doesn't show up in a photo......
Anyone have any experience with this.....

If it is not causing any trouble then I will just ignore it.

Has it been particularly hot up there lately? Sounds like it's melting.

If it's still perfectly flat, I would use it and enjoy!!!

Yep its caused by condensation, the thicker ribs take longer to warm/cool compared to the flat areas. Just like the frame of your car bonnet on a cold night...

Hmmm, that very interesting..... Because looking at it I've thought ... it looks as if it would polish out.....
Might give the steel wool and turps a go....
Will report back....

Well thanks for the tips guys... I seem to have largely fixed this....
I put some CLR on it and some elbow grease, and then ran the mouse over it with a nylon pad attachment.
I then cleaned it with turps, and cut and polished it with an automative polish....
Finally hit it with silver glide....
I think that this may have come from the time when I just used to put a coat of Inox on the table....probably for the first month or so....
I then went to a drop cloth and lanolin spray.....
