Perhaps you can take a close up photo of the plate attached to it. This will have the model number and other key information. Then we could look up the price of a new one of same or similar model.

It's always hard to put a price on used machines. General rule of thumb is half to two thirds of new price for something in good working condition. If in mint condition then perhaps a wee bit more. That said stuff often goes on ebay at eye watering prices. Ebay takes a commision but there is gumtree and also the for sale section on this forum.The H&F version is just over one grand at the moment and I could not see it on carbatec so perhaps they no longer stock it.

I bought a Hare & Forbes Panel Saw from a forumite several years ago.

It was in close to perfect condition, and the member only used it to construct a kitchen before selling it on this site.

The price he paid from Machinery Warehouse was circa $2300 if I recall correctly, and I bought it for the asking price of $1100 - no haggling.

Just take a quick peak at whats available on the used market to determine the going price, if its an ad thats been sitting around for a few weeks chances are its priced out of the market.

When I've sold anything on the used market, i've always considered the going rate and whether its a price I'm happy to part with it. If yes depending on the condition of the item I'll either add or subject from the going rate depending on how desperate I am to sell.

People will always low ball you, just play the waiting game and someone will come along if your item is as good as you say it is. The number of things i've seen on gumtree that says "excellent condition" that is clearly in anything but excellent is absurd. People who appreciate the value of your item will offer a reasonable price for it and these are the people I'm after when selling my items not the tool junky after a cheap item for bragging rights.

Mmm not sure about that. I see far too many people with unrealistic expectations selling their used tools. It then sits unsold for too long. The seller drops his price but by then most people think it hasn't sold for so long because there's something wrong with it. Pretty soon instead of being a year old it is 2 years old.
Motivated sellers sell their used tools quickly at a price attractive to buyers and move on.
The whole point of buying 2nd hand is to get a good deal. Otherwise one may as well buy new with a warranty.
