tablesaw or contractors ?
what are the pros and cons of the two saws, and what governs whether you have a right or left tilting blade.
Which saws have a riving knife that raises and lowers with the blade, also which brands around the $2-3000 including a sliding table is good value.
regards, in anticipation of some helpful advice.

Hi Table saws in general are better for controlling the containment of sawdust.

tablesaw vs contractors
Method of mounting the motor in a tablesaw is far superior to that of a contractors saw, and all in all they are a much tidier unit. As far as which saw is better than another, it is my considered opinion that if you are looking at equipment within a given price range, there really is very little that separates the various brands. You just have to make sure you are comparing apples with apples.
If you look at Brand A and it is worth X, and Brand B is X+ you have to determine where the difference lies, and that can sometimes be difficult because a lot of the glossy brochures and what sales people know can be minimal.
I recall in the leadup to my last major purchase the question was asked of some 'do these shafts run in bearings or bushes?' and that was enough to stump them.
What ever you buy look past the painted surface to determine where the best bang for your buck is

If your budget is $2-3000 and you are after a sliding table, then you are well out of contractor saw territory.
As stated above, contractor saws are a compromise, go for the tablesaw.
I have bought the TL10S and have attached a Triton Sliding Table to it as I didn't want to lose one of the cast iron wings. I prefer a left tilting saw, if you do a search I'm sure you will not only find my reasons, but also every other owner of a tablesaw on the forum (well almost!)
Oh and I agree with what Colin says, look at them in the flesh and if possible go to see the saws on your shortlist in someones' shed. I did and it decided me there and then (thanks bfx!)

I agree with what BS said.
Do you have a DC?
If not don't forget to fact that and additional ducting and gates, and other suitable PPE into the equation.
