    Default Making uneven mitre cuts

    Hi Guys,
I bought a Hammer K3 Winner a few months ago and am still learning how to use it.
I need to make a surround for a new Oven and as the bottom section is narrower than the rest, I want to cut an uneven miter.
Have been paying around, read the manual, googled, search U tube, but not found what I am after.
The cuts I want are 36° and 54°.
The scales only go to 45° so I assume I have to use the 36° mark for both, somehow.
Probaly too hard to explain in words, so has anyone got a link that explains it please?

    Steve

If you can make an 18 degree wedge, you can use the 36 degree setting twice -- once with and once without the wedge

    Pics as requested.
Not perfect, but pretty good. Inside edge won't be visible once fitted.

To make it perfect, clamp the assembly to hold positions. Cut along each mitre with a back saw, so that the kerf engages both pieces. For even cuts there are sets of corner clamps available , with gaps for the saw.

    Cheers,
    Joe

Thanks Joe, I haven't seen clamps like that. Not sure I could do that as I have glued the 2 top corners, so it would be too unwieldy to handle now. Have to check it fits before I secure the bottom rail.

Since I did this job, I have been looking at Double Mitre Fences. I thought Hammer would make them but it looks like they are only made for the higher end Panel Saws ( Felder, Martin, Altendorf, etc )
I have asked the people I bought it from, i f they know of one, but have not got back to me yet. The Felder model won't fit my machine , and anyway, its $3000! Too rich for me....lol
I thought about making one, but no-one appears to have gone down ht is road....not sure I'd have the time or patience to make and perfect a accurate DIY version.
Next thought was to look at something like the Incra range and give up on the idea of a Double Mitre Fence.
Maybe one of them will be just as good. I will start reading some reviews and get some prices.

    I use Metric measurements exclusively.

Anybody use one of their Mitre Gauges? Which one and are you happy with it?
    Best place to get one?

I have the Incra 1000HD as pictured, very happy with it, and rarely use the sled these days.
I bought mine from Carbatec when they had it on special, but shop around, there are several Aussie retailers including Professional Woodworkers Supplies who advertise on the right hand side of these pages.
Just be wary of the fence position if you swing it to 45 degrees etc., as the blade and fence can have an unfortunate coming together if you forget to adjust it.

Someone on Sawmill Creek forum has done that from memory, here you go, Post 3 in this thread Hammer K3 Winner - What I've learned in the last 6 months but you have to log in to see photos. SMC has the largest collection of slider information besides the dedicated Felder Yahoo user group. Derek Cohen in Perth has a K3 and he may have done something like this as well. The slot in the table is too narrow for the incra locking bar so you will have to modify or change it to fit the K3.

I have the Incra 1000SE -- I'm happy with it.

Incra also do a jig system and a fence positioner system -- as does Kreg -- that could readily be modified to look a like like the Altendorf (?) example

Find someone with a CNC and get the important bits plotted and machined on that, adding the fences is not hard and an Incra or Kreg fence would work but Incra preferably for the repeatability.

    Hi Alan,
Are you using it on a Hammer K3?

I checked the Incra specs and it appears to max out at ~19mm wide slots. Mine is 22 mm. I would have to fabricate a new rail to fit my slot.
    I have a 6040 cnc router.

The slot top entry on a K3 is 11.3mm or near enough at the top, the slot underneath it has no bearing on the use of the Incra or any other jig such as the Frits & Franz. Felder supply a guide/rail to fit in the slot to be used with accessory jigs such as the F&F jig.

    Thanks Chris,
I was just looking at the width of the slot. The Incra blurb says it can only be adjusted for slot widths between 18.80 to 19.30 mm. Mine is 22.00 mm so I thought that may be a show stopper, without a bit of thought and work.

I have been in discussions with the Felder Agent in Perth, and he has not mentioned the Guide Rail you mention.....Maybe I didn't ask the right question?...lol...or maybe its a secret....

I have not seen the F& F jig. Will Googlise it now...

Will try and track down Derek Cohen as well. See what he came up with...thanks.
