Vertical panel saw?
I have the chance to purchase a vertical panel saw and dust collector for $800 2nd hand, does anyone have one or used one?
I did think, will I use it much, the young bloke will a bit, I have to think about it.
This will cut mdf, ply, melamine, cement sheet, timber up to 50mm thick, aluminum sheet etc.
I have never heard of one till I was offered it, they are fairly big units.
I think it looks something like this, I haven't seen it yet.

I don't have one but have seen them at Bunnings. My thoughts echo yours, i.e. how much use would it actually get? Breaking down sheet goods is a PITA but I don't do it that often.
I empathise with your dilemma, great price but do you really need it?

How precise a cut can you produce with it? Using melamine for white board cupboards is a test for for most bench saws and more the domain of a panel saw. Also cutting small pieces of board I would think could be a pain.
Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

I would think very hard before I knocked it back as they don't appear on the market that often. Put it on a wall and even if it is not used very much it isn't in the way and you can put stuff in front of it.

Had to knock it back, I reckon it will pop up in Bendigo probably on gum tree, but it will be a fair bit dearer.
Young bloke said he won't really use it, plus I had to get a hold of a car trailer to pick it up, 7 to 8 hour round trip.

If you always work with panel goods and lots to cut, then this is a good saw to get
If not, and you mostly deal with solid wood, this saw is only a complimentary/nice to have saw.
there is nothing you can not do on a standard panel saw, but same cant be said other way, this type of saw typically has quite shallow cut.SCM L'Invincibile si X, SCM L'Invincibile S7, SCM TI 145EP, SCM Sandya Win 630, Masterwood OMB1V, Meber 600, Delta RJ42, Nederman S750, Chicago Pneumatics CPRS10500, Ceccato CDX12

First time poster here and a little late to the party on this thread but I picked up a vertical panel saw at a garage sale for $500 a couple of years ago. It has actually been really handy. For full size sheets it can be a bit tedious as my machine has an extension on each side of the machine which can be a pain to keep parallel with the other rollers on the machine. In saying that my machine is pretty darn accurate for a rip cut, and over a 1220 sheet of melamine is generally within 1-2mm. I haven't really played with it to try and square up the cut but for the work that I do at home I work with a close enough is good enough theory with this saw! If I can ever afford to buy a nice tablesaw I would definitely use it for cutting within a few mm and probably finish it on the table saw. It beats me standing in line for ever at Bunnings waiting for them to cut sheet goods and telling me that they have a tolerance of +/- 5mm
