    Default 16-32 drum sander HELP!

    Greetings, first post (that I remember) and it is a request for help.
    I bought a 16-32 drum sander, looks identical to a Ryobi wds1600 (& plenty of other 16" drum sanders), and have discovered this blown out part in the speed control:

    Does anyone have a similar machine? Can anyone please tell me what that badly damaged 3-legged thing is, or provide the full code numbers on it? Raring to get sanding, but held up by this little bugger.....
    Thanks!

    That looks like a mosfet, it controls the variable speed through voltage changes

    JAYCAR (easy to buy from) or RS Components (not so easy to buy from....).

    RS Components looks like they have them;

    Thank you for the replies.
    Yes, Mr B, I eventually spotted them at RS.....I have had the suggestion to up the ante, but I know nothing about electronics. Would this do the same job, but be more robust?

    The question is - why did it blow in the first place? How are the rest of the components on the board? Also the trigger current on the one above in your reply is twice that of the other which Mr Bush listed, which may mean that board components have to be changed

    Thanks, Lappa. Would it have overheated? Maybe attach a mini heatsink?
    I ordered the direct replacement part in the end.....

    That hole in the top is for screwing to a heatsink

    too hard, too difficult,
    Get a proper sander (SCM) and guaranteed there will always be parts 30 years after it rolled out of the factory.
