Default New addition to the shed! Great machine.

So I sold my 8" carbatec Jointer and went a bought this bad boy... It's an amazing bit of machinery and after some fine tuning it gets boards more square than I thought possible.

Are you able to elaborate on the short comings of the carbotec jointer from your experience. I'm in the process of researching a jointer purchase and the carbotec was a serious contender.

    Sorry for the late reply.

The carbatec machine was a great machine and nothing really wrong with it I was just lucky enough to be able to upgrade and always eyed off the powermatic machine.

The one thing with the carbatec machine that always annoyed me was that I found the fence didn’t take much to knock it out of square, this just meant I would always use a square to square it up before I used it each time.

Apart from that I had upgraded my cutter head to a helical cutter which I would recommend if your cost permits.

The carbatec jointer won’t disappoint it gets the job done.

That is a common issue with jointers sharing a similar design. Initially I had some set up issues with my jointer which were related to the initial assembly - mainly getting the infeed and out feed surfaces aligned in parallel planes.

The Powermatic looks like a great machine. I was looking at them for our men shed and the only reason I never ventured down the Powermatic path was the importer.

I was advised at the time by a staff member at carbatec (importers) we can only supply what tools are available in Australia. As we no longer import or deal with Powermatic tools. Of course my first question was who looks after any warranty matters. I was told Powermatic USA.

That was a no deal for me. I hope someone else has taken up importing these tools as they are a nice piece of gear.

What machine did you choose in the end?

    Laguna 12 inch jointer.

This is a beast of a machine, I have a feeling they came out of the same factory Powermatic and Laguna, I could be VERY wrong on that one.

If u look at the spec they appear exactly the same apart from paint colour.

If the purchase was just for me I would have been very tempted to go with Powermatic, however with this tool going into a group environment, warranty was a concern, hence the Laguna path.
