Default Australian Made Jointer and Thicknesser

    Hi All,

Do you know of any Aussie made machinery equivalent to the Powermatic tools Carbatec are selling?

Good question I'm sure others will chime in.

Got a time machine? Sadly there are only a couple of woodwork machinery places left in Australia, Woodfast and Vicmarc. Of those two only Vicmarc still makes their machines in Australia.

That would be a handy feature in the workshop. I could go back a few minutes to save that piece of timber I just cut too short.

I havent heard of Vicmarc before. From the website, I assume they focus on lathes. SMC would be nice to go for but the budget won't stretch that far. Powermatic might be the answer. I had assumed they were made in the States but looking at the website, it seems only the cutter head is.

Sadly, not sure you'll find a new jointer built here in Australia.... Unless you build your own like I did
Felder/Hammer are built in Europe (Swedish I think?) Minimax (SCM) is Italian made. Powermatic like you said i'm doubtful they are fully made in the USA but they do have excellent QC and standards are high. You will find PM to be very reputable but I don't think they are worth the extra $$ here due to the poor Aussie dollar. Could check out Laguna branded models too.

Also having a tighter budget and trying to afford Australian/European/USA built machines doesn't really work sadly.

For the money, my next machine will probably be a combination felder unit. But for now my homemade jointer and carbatec benchtop thicknesser will have to do.

    Best of luck.
