Carbatec Double Drum Sander
G'day, need some help. I have owned this double drum sander (my second one) for several years but, due to circumstances, have never used it. I recently switched it on for the first time, everything was fine for a couple of minutes, then the drums stopped rolling and won't start again.
Considering the time I have had it, I highly doubt any warranty would apply.
I've had a little bit of a look around it and pulled some covers off, and I can't see any burn marks.
??? Has anybody had this happen and, if so, any idea of a remedy?

Have you still go power to the machine? Has the circut breaker been tripped? Does it have a re-set button? Has a drive belt broken/perrished?

Yes thanks, all the above okay, but I had a mental aberration: it's actually the feeder belt that is not operating (separate drive motor attached to the travel frame).

The next likelihood is the conveyor motor is kaput , the gearbox on mine died a few months ago , I had to buy feed motor and box as single part number @$500 odd dollars ...

I can manually advance the belt and the machine has no hours of use; how could I tell if the feed motor is kaput?

Unless you're good with electronics, I'd contact carbatec, they normally would have a contact that they will recommend to diagnose your issue. It could be a number of things eg dodgy switch, dodgy motor, dodgy wiring etc.
All the best with your sander.

I had the same issue with a Carbatec wide belt sander and my local electrical machine expert replaced the original conveyor belt speed controller unit with a heavy duty USA Vari-Drive unit and no more issues. He said the original units are light weight and the replacement unit is widely used here in similar applications. I think all of these control units pull down power via a transformer and then run on 12 volts.
Cheers,

Thanks Paintman, it looks like that is the problem and I'm just waiting for the replacement part now. Hopefully it will be up and running again soon.
Cheers
