Default CTS spiral head for DW735

    Hi all,

I'm just about to start the installation of a CTS spiral head in my Dewalt DW735 thicknesser. No installation instructions came with it but I found some on the Byrd website for the Shelix head and also a Youtube video. I'm thinking it seems pretty straight forward enough...but I know that bloody Murphy is hovering somewhere behind me.

Has anybody already done a CTS spiral head installation and can give me a heads up on likely issues that Murphy will spring on me.

Also, does anybody know if I will need to remove all the carbide knives from the CTS head to get it through the bearing housings. The Byrd website states this is required for one of their two Shelix heads that suit a DW735. I'm not sure about the CTS head.

    Thanks in advance

    G'Day TwoShed,
I put the Byrd cutter head in my Dewalt DW735 using the printed instructions from Byrd.. relatively easy but it was easier with 2 people...
    Cheers, crowie

    Thanks Crowie,

I already had a look at the Byrd instructions. They are pretty good with all the photos - printed them out and have them next to the thicky for reference while I work.

That bloody Murphy has already struck a blow. Couldn't shift the two hexhead cap bolts on the feed chain sprockets and wound up spinning the allen key inside the cap. Had to drill them both out and eventually freed the bolts with a splined easy out. They were very tight.

Now I can't find my internal snap ring pliers. Then I remembered I left them on the workbench during the wheat harvest. They're not much good to me 600km away.

I'm off to the BGS in the morning for new snap ring pliers and 2 new 'will fit' cap screws.

    Regards
