Default GMC $199 thicknesser - still going?

Someone had to ask. Seeing it was brought up again by Carrypine in nother thread.

I bought one and have had no problems. Only had fairly light use.

The only thing is, it didn't like the board with the nail I put through. Should have paid more attention when Iturned and thought "Why did I put that board there?................BUZZ.............BANG.........DAMN..*%^$#%$....That's right the nail!!!!!"

I bought one for the FIL's birthday last year and he is still happy with it. It hasn't had any heavy use, but it has been able to handle quite happily whatever he (and I) have thrown at it.
    Cheers

Does the Ryobi model count??? I've got the Ryobi model with the anti-kickback fingers which is based on the same design as the GMC. Its still going strong with decent use.

I am happy with mine although I admit it has only had light work so far.
    Reality is no background music.

A big griggio(scm) thicknesser does most of my thicknessing, but this little GMC does some of my onsite work. Recently some fishermen tried very hard to kill it with 8" spotted gum beams. They failed.
I tried to kill it with 6" teak and 10" spotted gum, all it did was overheat and cut out. I went and had lunch break and within half an hour it was happily munching on 10" planks again.

Pretty good little machine for $199. It's actually out performed a larger 'crapatec' machine I had that packed it in after a few oregon sleepers.

The most favourable feature though is it's portability, this is why I bought it.
Blades are easy to change too. Major plus.
