    Default Hafco pt-254s

    Hello,

Hare and Forbes is having a sale and I am looking at the hafco PT-254s Combination Planer Thicknesser.

Can anyone give me some feed back on the hafco pt-254s Combination Planer Thicknesser?
Firstly does the table top lift up, I cannot find any information on this. Are there any know issues?
Living in Broome Western Australia, which is remote, and over 2200 kilometers away from Perth it is hard to look at any machinery physically, so I am am relying on the honest opinions of others that have the luxury of machinery shops just around the corner..

    Thank you in advance

    Regards
    Stephen

Hi rang Hare and Forbes today, no wonder I cannot find any reviews, the sales person looked up the particular model and they are a new model and only just imported to Australia and they have not sold 1 yet!

What are others general feeling about Hafco gear?

    Regards

    Hi Stephen,
Can't comment on this machine but I notice for another $100 you can get the 12" model which is what I would be going for.

    Hi Ross,

Yes that is true, but it only has the high speed steel blades and not the helical cutter like the smaller 10" model.
I am after a helical cutter head, 12 inch models with helical heads add another $700.

    Thank you for your reply

You should check whether the "spiral" head is set up so that the blades have a shearing action (i.e. are tilted with respect to the direction of rotation) or are merely segmented and distributed around the cutting head. Given that the blades are HSS I suspect the latter, but you never know.
