    Default Hafco spindle shaper.

    Good morning all.
I have inherited a Hafco SP-150 spindle shaper from a mate who passed a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, there is no owners manual and limited spanners, which I think are for the machine.
I am trying to remove the router bit currently in the machine, with no success as yet.
I have received a very limited set of instructions from Hare & Forbes in Sydney, but it doesn't help.
    Anybody here able to help?
    Thanks in advance.

This might seem basic, but engage the spindle lock and use the longest spanner for the nut. Otherwise, soak in what ever penetrant you like and spanner.

Pat, This unit does not appear to have a spindle lock. There is a nut at the top of the spindle shaft into which the router bit is fitted (similar to an inverted router). I have tried to loosen it, but there is no provision to fit another spanner under the nut at the top of the spindle to allow the router bit to be released, as you would do with a router. I did try using vice grips, but they are slipping and I don't want to damage the spindle. At the moment, it's doing my head in!

If you like, I can send you a photo to explain my predicament.

    Thanks.

    Hi Slopey,

    A photo would help.

It doesn't have a hex bolt in the top of the nut by any chance?

Some pics would be good, it looks similar to my Jet - 33 SM. The spindle lock is on the right hand side, as you look at the table, to operate the machine.

Post some pics of all 4 sides and of the spindle head.

    Pat:
I have attached some photos of the unit, and the top of the spindle in particular, showing the nut and spanner.

    Thanks,

It didn't come with a pressed steel wrench with a couple of pins pressed on each side of the jaws?

Or, possibly, a thingamajig that looks like it was made by whoever makes commercial fry baskets for fish'n'chip shops? (Which, although it doesn't look like it would be of any use whatsoever and is probably just random shed detritus unrelated to the moulder but is in actuality a cheap custom wrench to fit over those tabs on top of the bearing? Both types exist)
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.
