Jet JPT-310HH spare cutters
I've recently bitten the bullet on some equipment, and one item that has been recently delivered is a Jet 12" planer/thicknesser combo machine, the JPT 310HH: https://www.carbatec.com.au/machiner...th-spiral-head
I noticed that spare cutters for this machine are somewhat expensive ($160 per box of 10) compared to overseas sources. The original cutters here are: https://www.carbatec.com.au/blades/p...d-shelix-heads
I've done a bit of digging around, and in the US I can find a 10 pack for USD$65.00 from: https://parts.jettools.com/SearchResults.aspx?s=1791212
Those cutters I am pretty darn sure are going to work, as they're from Jet themselves (the US model JJP-12HH is the exact same unit, they call it a jointer/thicknesser and it's noted as being 12" instead of 310mm which is the same thing in a different measurement).
Further to that offer, I found the Byrd Tool store selling a pack for USD$35.00: Byrd Store
I wrote to the folks at Byrd, and was told "We only supply our cutter block to Powermatic, not Jet".
Interestingly, if you look at the Carbatec listing, the part is "Replacement Tungsten Knives to suit JET & Powermatic"
Has anyone any information, direct knowledge, thought or opinion on whether the Byrd Tool cutters will work in this machine? Any other thoughts or places/sources for spare cutters? I am not against paying a fair price locally, but USD$35.00 works out to less than AUD$42.00 - it's near enough 4 for the price of 1, and I find that a bit excessive

Ask this guy - https://sje-tools.com/
He's a member here, knows his stuff and supplies quite a few other members here with inserts.

G'day Midnight Man
I wouldn't be to worried about this yet as you have four sides to dull.Bit of a different story to resharpening knife blades.Enjoy the machine and the finishes you get.Be a bit of awhile before you need to replace the inserts.
cheers....Roy

Thanks Roy - and true, I'm not used to thinking in terms of sharp things being usable 4 times before needing replacement!
Have reached out to the folks Aldav mentioned above in any case, I am assuming they will be able to assist, but happy to keep the conversation going in case others come across this in the future looking for answers (it's one of those questions on which the answer could be understood to go either way, and it'd be nice to sus out an affordable option for any Jet owners out there

Sure did Gary (gave me a turn seeing my old thread bumped!)
Congrats on the purchase - I reached out to Steve Evans at SJE-Tool - he does have cutters for the machine:
The JPT-310HH have a Byrd head which take the 15x15x2.5R100 inserts: https://sje-tools.com/carbide-insert...814586784.html
Enjoy!

Yep avoid carbatec. SJE i've bought from before. As others have said, it will be a while till you'll need a new set! I have rotated my blades once I think in about two years. Still a good finish

Hi there
I've just bought a secondhand Jet JPT 310-HH, cheap as....... because it's got no motor or drive pulley. I have sourced the drive pulley but need to get a motor and don't want to pay the $600 pus freight to get to me. Can anyone please tell me or take a pic of their motor ID plate so I can get the correct speed motor. Cheers troops.
