The jointer has landed...
After much discussion, delay, fro-ing and to-ing we finally have our new jointer lying in the back of the ute.
It's a Jet 6" long bed and it'll join a CT 15" thicknesser in a partnership to create busloads of wood shavings.
Outlay was $1,000 plus another $120 for a mobile base. And before anyone has conniptions over the price.......go and get a freight quote these days. When you don't live in major East Coast capital city then you get slammed. Especially when you have to swallow a 22% fuel levy. For example, my supplier was quoted $570 to get a 15" thicky from his place to Shepparton.....
So I reckon we did quite OK all things considered.
Looking forward to creating a few lovelies with a bit of Euc we've got lying around.Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

Very funny, Waldo. Not a little untrue either.....
Does the excuse that we've spent all our money on a jointer and don't have any left for a digital camera hold any water?
Still got three...no four perfectly good film cameras.......the only time I use a digital camera is when we borrow a work camera....
This do?
Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.

Guilty as charged but at least it's OK.
Have to say that it was a pretty easy and straightforward exercise to assemble and tune (unlike our CT thicknesser)....with a very thorough manual (most unlike our CT thicknesser) to boot!
It sings through the river red gum and leaves a nice consistent finish that's easy to tidy up.
Cons? Whilst I value the blade guard........it's a bloody frustrating PoS to work with especially on thinner pieces of material. An overhead guard (as opposed to the side loaded lever) would be a better (and safer) toy to my mind.Ours is not to reason why.....only to point and giggle.
