    Default Laguna vs Rikon Thicknesser

    Hi All
    I’m trying to decide
between the Laguna 16”thicknesser or the Rikon PTH 23-400H which is also a 16” thicknesser.

The Rikon is about $800 cheaper, but apart fromthat both machines are very identical in terms of specs. In the Rikon the bedrises instead of the cutterhead in the Laguna, I’m not sure if there’s pros andcons to that.
Another factor, I’m looking at is for good afterservice.

So anyone got any idea on these machines and anyone in Melbournehad any experience with the retailers?

    Thanks

When the bed is supported by one large post and has its height adjusted, you need a strong way of locking the post when the height is set. My jet combo machine is built this way and I notice very heavy boards and thick cuts can put enough pressure on the bed to cause it to drop during planing...which can be a pain! That doesn’t mean that configuration is bad, many industrial machines use it, just check the mechanism inside to see if it is well built.

Thanks Austin, I've decided to go with the Laguna as the retailer is pretty close to me and the Laguna looks to be built better. I'll see how I go.

i’ve got the laguna and have put many, many cubes through it over the past 5 years without it missing a beat very happy with it.
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .
