Default Plastic Gear on Planer Thicknesser?

My Woodman planer thicknesser (PT310HH) which is the same as the Jet JPT310 HH has been stalling the wood feed when in thicknesser mode. It would feed in ok and then the feed roller would stop turning and the wood required a bit of a push to get going again. This was not due to excessive thickness being removed.

On investigation I've found there is a plastic cam wheel that has a few teeth worn down in one patch that is causing the problem (see attached photos).

My question is;- Has anyone else had this problem and can the plastic gear be replaced with something a bit more robust (or is it plastic for a reason)?

    Cheers

    Mike
