review 305mm slide compound mitre saw
Hello, I am about to purchase a 305mm slide compound mitre saw, Does anyone have some recommendations based on experience or has anyone done the research in regards to features and value for money. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I should add that accuracy of cut is important but I am looking for a good allround saw. Price isn't an issue I am well prepared to spend the extra if it gets me a better product
Many thanks Mick

Mickey,
this topic has been discussed in other parts/sections of this forum, but there seems to be a concensus that makita are probably the industrial standard, especially in the 250mm saw and I can't see why their 300 mm waould not be any different.
I would make sure that it had left and right mitre cuts, good sized table area, ease of blade changing etc. Besides the makita, the dewalt has a good reputation, along with the hitachi, I'm not sure what bosch make or if Festool make a 300mm model of the Kapex? or if it is one! if price is not a problem.
Good luck!!!Smithy

Check out the powertool forum, a lot of threads there.
I'm lucky, being a chippie I've been able to use most major brands. Hitachi, Makita, Dewalt, Metabo and Bosch. I used to have an 8inch Hitachi, the 10inch is very nice to use. I now have a Dewalt 8inch (used to be an Elu), but I don't think this is a true slide compound (can't trench for one), but it is very compact to transport, hence why I have it.
The winner by a country mile is the Makita LS1214, no contest (before you say it, I know I've never used a Festool). To of my mates have this saw, it is an absolute dream to use.
Go to a tool shop and have a play with all the brands, you'll see the Mak's got the best slide action. Very accurate and easy to keep accurate.
Don't get me wrong all the above brands are very good and nice to use, but the Mak is just alot nicer to use.

Also if you were to get a makita ls1214, get it from bunnings. They sell them for around the $1000 mark, however they beat competitors by 10%, so get them to call sydney tools who sell them for around the $950. I got mine from bunnings for $850 price matched. They may initially have an excuse as to why they dont price match with sydney tools, but from my experience they do.

I bought my 1214 from sydney tools, we organized a group buy of tools back in the tafe days. Got them for $1000 each with 4 blades per saw.
Awesome saw, i use it for everything, accurate as ####. I don't need any lasers either, i can eye it off without any worries.
I heard they don't make the 1212 anymore??
Only a few times ive needed a bigger angle cut. But i just chock the timber out to get the extra angle.
