Default Spiral Cutters for Metabo DH330

    Gentlemen,
I have a Metabo DH330 thicknesser about 5 years old and I would like to install spiral cutters as the replacement for the two cutters is about $77 from England. They normally last about 9 - 12 months but a unforseen nail made me get another set within 2 months and a wait of a couple of weeks for delivery as they aren't resharpenable.

I have spoken to Bob at wood craft supplies a while ago and he until then hadn't installed one yet.

I was wondering does anyone have a similar machine with the spiral cutters, if so where did they get them from.

    Thanks in advance.

    Marty

haven't seen an in the flesh spiral head for a Metabo thicknesser, but was cruising the Byrd US site earlier in the week looking at options for another make and saw that Byrd will custom make a cutter head for almost any model planner. You just place an order and wait till it's ready. If I read the Byrd site correctly, spiral heads are made made to order so custom heads don't attract much of a price premium.

Byrd has a range of stock heads, but will custom make if they don't have what you need. Expect to pay at least as much as the machine itself if you have to go custom.

    some numbers,
Just Tools are quoting AUD 900 for a Metabo thicky.
A Byrd head for a DeWalt 734 (which is similar to the Metabo) is USD 470, say AUD 650 plus shipping.
I recall seeing a price of around USD 570 for a "non-stock" 10 inch head earlier in the week.
