    Question Thicknesser Adjustment

I have purchased a CT-381 Carba-Tec Deluxe 15" Thicknesser. It is a very heavy machine. The truck that delivered could not get up my driveway because it is so steep. I had to unpack it at the bottom of the driveway and remove the top from the base so four of us could lift it into a vehicle. That is all done now and I would be grateful for some advice on setup. I have read on this forum that the in feed roller will leave marks on the timber if you take a fine cut. Does releasing the spring tension on the roller change this situation? Any other tips on using this machine would be appreciated. I have bought this machine to make table for my two children from some New Guinea Rosewood that I have had for many years that is 355mm wide and my 12-inch thicknesser will not deal with that. I look forward to hearing from you.

Just make sure that any cuts that you make are not too fine. A quarter of a turn on the handle is equal to 1mm. So far I have not had any marks from a 1/8th turn (1/2mm) cut

Do yourself a really BIG favour. Do a search on this forum for thicknesser tuning or some such. One of the contributors, Major Panic has written an excellent article on thicknesser tuning which you can download. Next get yourself a good dial gauge and put aside a half day one weekend to do the tuning.

My 15" thicknesser was 10 years old and running like a dog. After working thru Major's article, I had a machine which was like new. Well worth the effort.

    Cheers,
    Keith

    Hi Bob & Keith

Thanks for your reply. I found the article by Major Panic. It is very good. I have a dial gauge and will make the jigs shown in the article and get busy.

    Kind regards
