    Default Thicknessner.

    Hi To All,
Not really a review, but wood like to know if anybody bought the Planer Thicknessner from Aldi.
    It looked a great Machine, & @ $279 ??, I thought that was a good price.
Not sure what it wood be like, if you had to have a replacement part, if something went wrong with it, hopefully well down the track.
I'm sure some of the Toy Makers & Box Makers wood find it a good Item.
    Regards,
    issatree.

Post 11 in this thread https://www.woodworkforums.com/185807...highlight=aldi told us other brands of the same machine, so maybe parts are not to hard to get.

    Default Aldi Thicknesser

I have recently bought a 13" Spiral thicknesser from H & F at a sale price not that different to the Aldi.
I would wait for a sale at H&F and buy the Spiral, they are becoming the standard and well worth the extra.
They do a smooth finish on cross grain (mostly) and give the best finish.

That seems like a heck of a deal on the thicknesser.

I bought the Aldi machine but have yet to use it in any comprehensive way. The reason I bought it was primarily for the jointer. I already have a thicknesser (Ryobi crumble-o-matic (more on this in future separate post)) but getting my reference surfaces was my reason for this purchase. Provided the replacement handles for my Ryobi hold up I'll most likely use the two in conjunction with each other. The Aldi machine is much quieter in jointing than the Ryobi is in thicknessing. I am yet to use the aldi as a thicknesser but I can't imagine any reason why it would be any different in noise level. It has a good 8" bed which is wider than most benchtop jointers but less than thicknessers. I saw a video on YT about it which I will post once I can track it down again. Seems perfect for the hobbyist or those with limited room such as myself. Quality seems to be ok and it is pretty light. Blades should be easy enough to make out of 12" ones in a pinch. The edge fence has plastic inserts at the end that protruded and blocked the path to finish a pass. Easy fix though as they are just cosmetic. The replacement belt seems pretty flimsy but the guy in the video said he's gone 3 years with no need to install the spare.

Once I get some more use out of it I'll post something more substantial. Pretty pleased with it for the money.

Bunnings had this planer as OZITO a few years ago - you may find back references to it.

Oh, Black Ned! And here I prided myself on having a good power tool collection without a single Ozito among it.

    Quick update.

Seems like the infeed table would not go down evenly on both sides. This resulted in many twisted boards. Result - returning it and buying something more substantial.
