Default Turn your $99 GMC compressor into a $1200 compressor for $85 aud

WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT BUYING A GMC AIR COMPRESSOR I COME HERE TO READ ALL ABOUT THEM.

What you all probably aren't aware of is if by any chance you accidentally brake the cowling on the motor 5 minutes of running is anuff to completely burn the motor out on them.

witch happen to me i borrowed my mate gmc and he had broken the cowling and you guest it when i ran it for more than 5 mins it burnt out.

i had to pay him $80 to replace it so the money id been saving was now gone and all i was left with was a burt out compressor now i'm never one to let anything bad over come me.

so i pulled it totally to peaces to see how it worked and relased i could fit another motor to it and she would be good to go again i looked high and low for a motor and was told that you cant stick just any old motor on them as a compressor motor is different and needs torck down low to start it when its under load and to get a motor for it was going to be like $350.00.

so this is what i done and i thought you all might be interested in kn owing this.

firstly you undo the 4 bolts that hold the old motor on removeing the back on it then undo the 6 or so screws on the compressor backing plate inside you will see an allem key bolt undo this the thread is anticlockwise you then put one of the bolts you took out of the motor down were you pulled the elemkey bolt out off and tap with a hammer the conrod will come off and you can easerly slide the old motor out of the caseing.

then on the shaft end to wards the conrod you will see the mashined end on the shaft then a black peace about an inch long you cut thru it leaveing the part that was conected to the crank and the inch thats the normal black shaft befor it was mashined.

you thin take out the 4 bolts to the compressor pot and head leaving them all intact you then replace the conrod on the gmc with one off of a brigs and stratton lawn mower they are heaps stronger and way better you will have to put a sleave in the small end of the conrod to make it the same size as the gudgeon on the piston in the compressor this isn't hard to do.

you then replace the crap bearing in the compressor caseing with a heavey duty one cost about $5.00.

you then take the shaft to someone with a lathe and get them to drill a 10 mm hole in the center of the shaft opiset end to the crank.

then you get a 9 inch angel grinder and strip off all the front cogs till your only left with the shart and the suports to the front bearings and have your chaft welded onto the angel grinder motor.

then doing the operset of pulling it to bits put it all back to geather on the back of the angel grinder with the handel removed there will be 2 bold holse you can make a bracket to crew these into and weld it to the tank this will hold the motor all in place you then tale the 2 wires that come out the back on the motor that used to be attached to the handel and trigger of the grinder and and wire them to the lead that comes off of your compressor you are now ready for its first run.

you will find it now never gets hot at all it pumps up in 1/4 the time as it did before and you can run anything you like from it now as it will always keeps up making your $99 gmc compressor into a $1200 for an extra $85 i hope someone finds this good value reading regards rod.
P.s please forgive me for my spelling.

    Thumbs up

Now that is what I call a bloody good fix.

And for that I forgive every single spelling mistake AND the grammatical errors.

Oh yes _ A big welcome to the forums. Bush mechanics section is not up and running yet.

    Thanks and welcome!

I will remember this post when my GMC compressor goes belly up. I've had it for 4 years and it's still going ok, but you never know.
