Clinton,

if you’re redimensioning timber or looking to do long 45 degree rips I’d go for the table saw every time.
In my workshop and in the Men’s Shed I attend I’d estimate that the table saws get used more than ten times as much as the bandsaw. Probably much more. I do like the bandsaw, but unless you also have a jointer and a thicknesser I’d doubt you’d get a decent square result without an awful lot of effort. A table saw makes quick work of most ripping, crosscuts, mitring, grooves and dadoes. With a simple jig you can do box joints, cut an accurate tapered leg, cut coves and much more.

Different issue if you’re only dealing with sheet goods, where a track saw and rail are often easier than a small table saw.

i agree with Derek - I’d start with the table saw.
