If not in use for extended periods I toss a bit of concrete underlay over things after a good oil and waxing. I dislike fabric covers as they hold moisture if they do get damp, and also seem to attract mice. Nothing quite like rat to make things go rusty.

I use BBQ covers as the top cover over old sheets, the sheets stop sharp edges of the machine wearing holes in the BBQ cover. Picked up some well priced fleecy lined waterproof BBQ covers from Spotlight several years ago, whether they still sell them is a different matter.
