Deep Drilling straight and on 90 degrees using a small 2mm drill bit and hand drill?
I need to drill a 50mm deep 2 mm wide hole in 8mm wooden plank.
I only have a cordless drill. Could anyone suggest what would be the best way todo this?

I don't see what the problem is, pretty straight forwood just make sure you keep the drill perpendicuar

Cut a groove at EXACTLY 90deg in the edge of a 20mm or 30mm thick piece of timber, about 2 to 3 mm deep, the saw cut will be about 2mm kerf, then sit the piece of timber with groove over the centre of where you want the hole and use the groove to align your drill to and slowly start drilling make sure to to not exceed about 5mm each time and clear the drill flutes as a small drill bit of that size heats up very quickly and jambs the waste then breaks.
Curiosity has got the better of me. How do you drill a hole 50mm deep in something only 8mm thick or are you drilling in the end of it?The person who never made a mistake never made anything

To make sure the hole is perpendicular, set up a small mirror (e.g portable shaving mirror) to one side - on the left side if you're right-handed, etc., tilted to show your drill.
While drilling, periodically switch your vision between straight ahead (for side-to-side alignment) and the mirror (for fore-and-aft alignment).

Make sure you pull the bit out regularly (every 5-10mm), small bits don't clear themselves well so you need to clear the chips out yourself
