Drill press issue
My pedestal drill has a small bit of forward play in the shaft when in use - not when sitting in the home position. The result is that when the drill bit meets the wood the bit (via shaft movement) has a tendency to move forward a fraction, even when the wood has a starting punch mark. And I then get a hole with a slight forward angle, rather than straight down. This is more noticeable if the timber has any marked grain to deflect the bit.
Is there any way of removing this 'slop'?
Thanks for any views.

It sounds like you have excessive play in your quill - this link may help:

Thanks for that. That wouldn't work on my machine, but it led me on to other articles, and it turns out that there is a set screw that is supposed to address the problem, although it doesn't get a mention in my manual. I've adjusted it, and it seemed to improve things. I'll test it out tomorrow.
