Drum Sander
Hi everyone
I am looking to purchase a Drum Sander in a couple of months when I retire.
Can anyone give me there thoughts on which sander they have with the pros and cons.
I like trying to build furniture so some of the widths might be 500 -600 mm
I have been looking at the Jet 16-32.
Thanks in Advance

I've used the Jet 16-32 and been very happy with it.
A few things
dust extraction with a drum sander is a must, not a desirable option. When I was using mine it was outside (on a veranda) with the DC beside it.
the in feed and out feed tables are very convenient.
Setting the drum parallel to the table can be time consuming and frustrating, and if you're not prepared to put in the effort don't buy a drum sander
these sanders are designed to remove machining marks after your wood has been through a thicknesser and to thickness thin sections -- they are not designed to remove lots of material in a single pass. With mine it was not uncommon to pass a thin board through a few times before the drum was sanding the entire width of the board.
there appear to be 3 models of these sanders
original Jets -- with an open and and 4" dust port -- this is what I used
Clones -- also with open ends, but only a piddling 2" dust port
clones with a removable outboard support for the drum
Oh, and BobL, our fine dust minimalisation guru, doesn't particularly like them because they generate so much fine dust and generally have very poor dust collection.regards from Alberta, Canada

Than you very much for your valued reply.
I don't mind spending the time to set up the drum parallel to the table and now I understand it is only to use for removing small amounts of material.
I have a suitable dust extractor with a 5 inch outlet so I will obtain a reducer.
I have decided to go with the original jet with 4 inch dust chute
Cheers
Have a great weekend

I have the Supermax 19/38 machine, was originally wanting the jet unit but now wouldn't consider a Jet unit over the supermax.

Make sure you get the infeed and outfeed trays.

Hello Woody , they are not too difficult to build. I am just finishing one at the moment with a table about 500 mm wide and its own dust hood. The plans are readily available if you are interested. Regards, rmm1.

My apologies for the last post. Apparently someone has added a click on the word available to another website. It certainly wasn't me and I have no connection to the website involved.
