Hafco 15" spiral head thicknesser Vs Carbatec?
All,
Looking for advice / feedback from people who've seen both machines in the flesh.
The Hafco 15" spiral head machine is about $400 cheaper than the best price I can get on the same size offering from Carbatec.
Hafco is at: W414S | T-380S Thicknesser | machineryhouse.com.au
Carbatec is at: Spiral Head 15" Industrial Thicknesser : CARBA-TEC
The main difference seems to be included roller 'stand' and cast table extension on the carbatec.
Any other thoughts?
Do you think the carbatec unit is worth the extra money?

Go for the Carbatec as with the solid flat beds in and out it ensures the timber has a longer surface to ensure the timber is being dressed more true whereas with the rollers and the shorter bed the timder could be forced to jump up particulary on the outfeed... if you know what I mean.

So even thought the carbatec unit has really nice cast deck, and I'm really tempted, has anyone got experience with the Hafco machine?
What's the build quality like? (I know the carbatec ones can be a bit hit and miss)
Are the Hafco units easy to get bits for? (they advertise 20yrs of the same model - perhaps this is a good thing, perhaps though its not too..)
Are the motors really as they state or just as hit and miss as many other Chinese motors. (I know most power ratings on motors is a bit iffy these days)

I've had my 15" Carbatec for about 8 years now and have not had any problems with it. I've put Jarrah boards almost the full 15" wide through it and its performed. I have just recently replaced the 3 blade head with a genuine Byrd helical cutter head which has made it even better.

Hafco 15" spiral head thicknesser Vs Carbatec?
just ordered the hafco option as the spiral head has blades set to cut, not shear, ( i.e. their at > 90 degrees to the wood) so we'll see what its like..
