    Default I'm "Excited"

I am literally like a kid with a new toy. I managed to sell some HiFi gear on Ebay. I listed last Friday night, It was purchased early the following morning and the buyer drove from Sydney to pick it up.
I ordered a new Lathe from Carba-Tec on Monday at 2 pm and on Tuesday it arrived at 1pm. In 20 years of living in Narrabri I have never received anything via mail or Courier in 23 hours. I call that good service. Now all I need is two strong men to lift it off the floor and onto a bench. I think that's going to take some time to arrange. I'd send a photo but I can't lift it out of the box.

My next trick is to relearn how to use it.The last time I felt that magic feeling was 50 years ago. I'm hoping it's the old pushbike theory. Once you've learned you never forget. Somehow I doubt it. But I'm going to have fun trying. As is usual with me, as soon as I get any money it suddenly vanishes and I rever to my normal state of being broke. But do I care? No way. I probably did a dumb thing by buying a set of Chinese turning chisels. I know they are cheap but better cheap than none at all.

I would like to explore the world of pen making. After seeing some of the pens made by members of this forum, I'd love to give it a try. I can think of many friends who would love a home made pen. So I will be googling and Utubing to learn how it's done.

I'm not bragging I just wanted to share my joy of buying something so useful and thank Carba-Tec for their great and friendly service. No I don't get paid for saying that but I will admit I got a great discount I never even asked for. Is that a normal occurance on the forum that some businesses give members a discount? 10% is a healthy saving.

    G'day Ross,

Nice to talk to you for the first time. It's only the mini economy lathe mate. Not the best but my wallet wasn't too big to start with. Actually it's a solid beastie. Still stuck to the floor and desperate for a couple of strong backs to move in a bench for it. It's much heavier than I thought so rather than it suddenly vanish through the bench top I thought I'd bring in something stronger. A very kind member is sending me a set of chisels which I thought were cheap. Like $11.00 0n Ebay but when I saw the real ones price was more than 10 times that I got a shock. But WoodworkForums to the rescue and Mark has a set coming this way. So it seems my workshop is actuallya co-op affair with many supporters and providers. It simply wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the members of the forum. Something I will never forget. In fact my first job when the power goes on will be a longboard with everyone's name routered on it to remind me I'd be still lying in bed rather than sitting in a fully stocked workshop. A bunch of people who wouldn't know me if they fell over me but were kind enough to help me get the shop up and running by sending me tools which one special lady referred to as "Surplus to my requirements" A lady who is presently out in the freezing cold stripping and repainting a Triton saw table for me.

Sorry Ross, that was a rather long answer to your question but these special people deserve a big pat on the back at every opportunity. And I have a reputation for rambling on a bit..... and a bit more.

Cheers mate, If you want a lathe give Carba-Tec a try. Not only a discount but 23 hour delivery to the bush as well. A good company to deal with.

Happy woodworking and all the best Stu

My first lathe was a Carba-tec Micro with a set of chinese chisels, some pen kits and a mandrel, it was a great start. I have a copy of the PSI penturning DVD I will send you if you will PM your address. Be warned turning is addictive.
