Looking for a 1" belt sander
I am trying to buy a 1"/25mm belt sander. They usually come with a disc sander as a bench top unit but as far as I can tell there are no importers in Aus anymore. Timbecon list one in their catalogue but are out of stock and not likely to reorder. I can get one from UK but shipping is about twice the cost of the unit. Does anyone know of an importer of this type of machine I think I have searched all the usual places.

Have you had a look for a Ryobi in the big green shed? Possibly still located towards the back of the tool shop, in one of the centre isles. Ring them and ask. (M'dore is open until 9pm weekdays)

An Update to my last post. I have got Bunnings to send a machine down from Maroochydore to their Morayfield branch for me to collect. I tried to order one but apparently Ryobi are no longer making them or whatever their input is so it was lucky you were able to tell me there was one in stock somewhere else. My next stops are Rocklers and Woodcraft as we are off on holiday for 3 weeks in SW USA.
Thanks again
Rick

G'Day Rick,
Make sure you take a spare empty suit case for each of Rocklers and Woodcraft;
there prices and stock range are just so much better than the big hardware house's here.
You're very lucky.
Enjoy your holiday

Ummmmm Arrrrrrrr, yeah that's right! I knew exactly that there was one there (joking)
All I know is that I usually see one there when walking through the tool shop and that I live in hope that Ryobi (or someone) will eventually make a belt sander that has more disatance between the belt and the back of the machine. If a new model came out with a couple more inches of clearance, I'd be first in line for an upgrade.
Anyway, thanks for the heads up that they are no longer being made. I reckon a trip to the big green shed is in order to stock up on some spare belts.
Cheers.

Just had a thought, Rick !!!!
If Ryobi aren't going to stock the machine and thus Bunnings not selling them anymore;
you'd be best to buy yourself a small stack of spare belts as soon as you can or maybe miss out.

I'm pretty sure Harbor Freight has a store in the LA area. Here are some choices: http://www.harborfreight.com/catalog...?q=belt+sander
I have Item #92158 and it's very useful for detail sanding.
Note that American electricity is 110v, 60Hz.

*************
It's just not fair Joe,
Rick has one warehouse to purchase from.
You blokes in the USA have so much choice and at great prices.
I wish we had a lot more decent hareware & tool chains operating here in Australia.
The freight fron USA to Australia is a killer and "NO WARRANTY".
Thanks for the great news but is very sad not to be able to make as many purchases offshore as one would like to!!
Cheers, Crowie

Not the same thing, Crowie.
Rick said he's traveling to SW USA, and then narrowed it down to LA. If he's already there, why not browse the stores? An overseas expedition solely for tool purchase would not compute at all.
And concerning warranty, $30 would consume a chunk of my cost and time to return it locally.
Fair enough?
FWIW, you have Jim Carroll's, and we don't.

Point taken, Joe, We do have some good speciality stores...
Rick has already said he'll be checking out a couple of specific USA stores with a spare empty suitcase [lucky bugger].
Cheers, Crowie

Hi all,
have you had a look at attachment options for ordinary angle grinders? The samples shown are expensive readymades by Flex Germany, but third-party attachments fitting many brands of 115 mm angle grinders, are on offer through various channels. There is some very shoddy quality around, but i've also seen decent options for a moderate price. Belt widths range from 9 to 60 mms.
success
