Looking for cooling fan impellor
I have had an engine failure on my backup generator, single cylinder Chinese Yanmar Diesel. I have sourced a replacement, but need to find a cooling fan/impellor to go on the output shaft, I destroyed the old one removing off the tapered shaft.
The new engine has a straight 1 inch shaft, the outside diameter of the fan is 160mm. I think something like the fan that goes on the shaft of an electric motor should do the job, but can't seem to find anything with my online searches.
I don't think it needs to be anything special, its just to circulate the air inside the enclosure to help cool the engine.
Does anyone have any ideas ?

The original fan is a centrifical blower and these are much more efficient that a simple propeller fan. If you replace it with a propeller fan you will not get enougth cooling and the unit will over heat.

My suggestion is to epoxy the remaining bits onto a plastic disk (CD maybe) and try balancing it a bit as it is very unlikely that you will find anything other than an OEM part to replace it that will work successfully as it doesn't just circulate the air but blows it out of the housing slots.

Centrifugal blowers are indeed more efficient for the same radius and fin size and they are also quieter.
However, by increasing the radius of the simple propellor fan by ~20%, even though it had fewer fins I measured the propellor fan moved more air that an impeller similar to the original.
Making a centrifugal style impeller is dead easy as well. Cut out a flat disc for the base and then cut out individual vanes and pop rivet them onto the base.
If it's made out of lightweight sheet metal it does not need to be that well balanced.

Sorry for the late reply, I have been out bush with work. I typed up a lengthy reply twice only to have my connection drop out when trying to post it. Decided to save my sanity and wait until I got home.
Thanks Bob, it seems making one will have to be the answer.
I tend to agree with Bohdan, a simple fan won't cut it.
Cheers Bohdan, this could be the solution. I might look at cutting an aluminium disc out of some 3mm plate, and attach the pieces with epoxy and screws. Worth a try.
The ducting and panels inside the generator housing restricts the diameter to about 160- 165mm.
If the attempts at reconstructing the pieces into a useable fan are not successful, I will look at making one from scratch.
I was really hoping to find something commercially available that I could bolt straight on, or adapt to suit.
I am sure there would be something suitable somewhere, but finding it is proving to be harder than I thought it would be.Brad.

I would be tempted to take it along to a small engine/lawnmower repairer and ask him if he can suggest one that may be persuaded to fit.

I have found something on Aliexpress ( Au$14.98, delivered) that I can adapt to fit, will just have to make a hub/adapter to a couple it to the output shaft of the new motor. I have a metal lathe so not too much of a problem.

Edit, just noticed that the vanes are facing the wrong way. Will have to keep looking.Brad.

Would you please list the Aliexpress link so that others may be able to find it as well.

OK, found this one. vane direction is right now, not so good for attaching to the hub that I will make but should still be ok with a bit of fiddling. AU$15.46 delivered.
