Makita 9803 circular saw sharpener
I am looking for a Makita 9803 saw sharpener or some thing similar. The Makita machine is no longer made. Any help is appreciated.

There are a few Chinese clones around, I have the Makita and from what I have seen the Chinese examples are pretty poor quality

They do come up every now and then on ebay but pretty few and far between. I bought the Makita 125mm Bench Grinder/Sharpener 9300 back in the late '80s and while it is OK for run of the mill circular saw blades for power saws etc for anything requiring a better cut like a panel saw, then you are better off with a dedicated machine like you are after. I also have a Chicago sharpener but same deal.

makita 9803 is still available in japan on amazon or rakuten. not cheap but looks amazing.
lots of cheaper circular saw sharpeners also listed in japan.
cheapest shipping maybe anislo.jp run by japan post. great service. also ship slow surface mail for about half of express.
monotaro.sg has nishigaki n840dx for about 300.
monotaro ships free ex japan if you spend over SG200. if you register, they send 10% off coupon codes every 1-4 weeks. sadly they don't list the 9803 on singapore site and they won't ship to anislo.jp
but maybe they could list one day if enough people ask.

for a cheaper possibly ok option, holzmann maschinen is austrian company with their own factories in china. with luck that means austrian design and quality standards now.
lots of interesting looking stuff with designs well represented in aliexpress - presume copies there.
mty 8-70 saw sharpener from conrad.com €273 inc shipping and ex vat.

Not really that "interesting". Transformers are easy enough. Hz difference could cause a small speed reduction but that wouldn't badly affect a grinder. RS has UK site safety transformers that are relatively cheap compared to all the chinese ones. IIRC, mine used to be about UKP90 and cost me <AUD250 for 1650W continuous, 3300W peak. Carroll & Meynell CM33002 Site Transformer 240V To 110V selling for UKP60 in UK.
I got mine to run a US model sewing machine that is about $1800 here, US600. Way overkill as far as the capacity, but means I can run nearly anything I might want to source from US or Japan and I'm still way in front from the sewing machine saving even after paying for the big transformer.

If Jim doesn't reply, here's what happened.
About halfway through this year I alerted him by PM to an ebay ad in Queensland for a genuine Makita 9803 sharpener which from memory he got for about $350 ( could be wrong about the final price though ). There were a few bidders too.
