Thread: Makita N2012NB thicknesser issue

Work has a Makita thicknesser that winds up and down on one side a little bit but not the other. I've taken it apart and can see there is a bevel gear at the bottom of the vertical threaded handle rod that turns a horizontal rod (below the table) with a bevel gear to raise/lower the other side in unison. Problem is the bevel gear on the vertical rod isn't held on tight so won't spin along with the vertical rod/adjustment handle on top to then turn the horizontal rod and I can't see any way it ever was held tight. The horizontal gear has a key way which makes sense. The online parts diagram doesn't show any grub screws etc as far as I can see.

Has anyone had a similar problem ? I guess the set up is common to these lunchbox thicknessers ?
