Thread: On the market for Thicknesser

Chook did a pretty comprehensive review of the Carba-Tec thicknesser HERE. You might think it to be a bit out of your league right now; but it'll be one of those machines that will last forever and take whatever you throw at it. Also Jet, Makita and De-walt all make quality benchtop machines.

I currently own a 10 year old GMC 13" thicknesser; it works reasonable well but you have to allow for snipe and a finish that requires hand-planing and sanding. I only really use it for rough dressing planks after they've been across the jointer. I bought it when funds were tight and it was the best I could afford. The Ozito and Ryobi models in Bunnies will be pretty much the same, Ryobi for preference.

Thanks for the reply, will loook into it. I'm hearing odd things at the mo about Makita, my $600 buck Makita drill just packed up after a year!! Its tricky because I still respect the brand but not so sure now... I'll look into what ya suggested and go from there. Thanks again!

Also have a look at the Dewalt 735 as there are a heap of good reviews about them, a little more expensive for the 3 blade cutting head.
You can also get a Byrd Shelix Cutter kit for them down the track?
Just a thought.
