Miter saw table issue
I have a 2 year old Craftsman sliding saw. The table has developed a "grinding" sound and was getting hard to turn. So....sawdust, right? Got under the saw removed all the dust and had to reset the three sliding plates. (They fell out). Cleaned everything out, put the saw back together and same issue.
QUESTION.....The nut that tightens the slide, when loosened, solves this issue. If this nut is left too lose, is that a problem?
I know, long question, probably a simple answer but I just want to be safe and not have this thing come apart a create any damage. Especially to me.
Thanks for helping.

Jim, I am not a lathe expert, and no zip about Craftsman , I see you are in Arizona, and we (this forum) based in Australia.
Without being rude (or at least trying not to be ) may I suggest you contact a n American wood forum, you may get clearer answers, then again some smart knob here will likely pop up the answer to your question.I would love to grow my own food, but I can not find bacon seeds

I have a Jet 10" Contractors Saw. If I raise the the blade up too high the drive pulley on the spindle will rub on the cast iron top of the machine. That could be one thing to check, another that comes to mind is that the bearings on that main spindle may be starting to wear out which can give a metal on metal "grinding" noise.
Other than what I have suggested I am at a loss to recommend anything without being in your workshop and listening to the noiseJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

Tonto,
I did realize you folks are in Australia, but thought I might give it a try. I have a U.S based forum that I also
Belong to that helps. Your forum has helped in the past.
Thanks for the note,
Jim

Chambezio,
Good thought about the bearing. Lowering the blade didn't help.
I appreciate the note and will get sorted out one way or another.
Thanks again,
Jim

Not familiar with your saw so this is just a stab in the dark. That nut you mentioned may only need a spring washer to allow you to get the right tension. Some dry lube in the sliding bits may be some help also.
Regards
John

Thanks all. I believe I have it sorted out. Clean slide plates and dry lube on plates seemed to do the trick.
Again, thanks to all that responded.
