    Default Which Mitre Saw

    Hey all,

I'm in the market for a new Mitre saw.
Primarily going to use it for woodworking purposes for jobs too long for the tablesaw. At some point I'll buid it's own table so I can cut large lengths of timber.

So it needs to be accurate and cut 30cm boards.

As I currently don't have a lot of room a good stand with work supports would be handy until I can build its own bench.

My two biggest contenders are the Dewalt DWS 780 XE for $1200 including stand.
2nd is the Bosch GCM 12 GDL for $999 with stand.

Always had high opinions of the dewalt and the stand looks more substantial but the Bosch with its glide really looks like it could save room and is $200 cheaper.
At this price range however I'm more interested in the best and most accurate...
Anyone have any experience with either or both of these saws?
Is the Bosch as accurate as the Dewalt?
    Which would you guys get?

    Cheers

    Andrew

I haven't used the Dewalt but I purchased the Bosch GCM 12 GDL last year and could not be more happy with it. Both looked the goods in the shop and satisfied all of my hobbyist needs. My shed (yet to be built) will be very small and so in the end the Bosch won out by being able to sit flush to the wall with no rails sticking out the back. My saw came square to the table and cuts very nice. Dust collection could be better with the stock bag but with my Dewalt dust collector hooked up to the Bosch (perfect fit no adapter can you believe it) takes a fair amount of the dust the bag missed. I will say the one thing I dislike and like at the same time is it's weight. My gods the thing has enough mass to attract a moon. For one man to move the Bosch in and out of job sites this thing would give you a work out. Once in my shed it will not be coming out much lol. On the steel stand I need my son or another man to assist with moving it. I believe the Dewalt was lighter. That said it's first job was to cut sections of 2 to 3 meter 90x90 posts for a fence job the Mrs had for me and it sliced em like butter perfectly square (according to my square) and the table didn't wobble all over with the longer heavier timbers on it. You would probably be happy with either. I certainly don't regret getting the Bosch at all.

    Cheers

Thanks mate, think I likely will go with the Bosh.
    Appreciate the input!

Not sure if the models are still valid but this might be worth watching, basically the amount of dust collection can vary alot between models if dust is a concern

The Bosch for sure. A mate has one and that articulated movement sure is superior to the sliding arm saws.

I was tossing up between the 2 and opted for the Dewalt. I've had it 12 months now and it's been gold. I'm rebating/trenching a stack of 100x100 hardwood posts and it's flying through them and square too. Crap dust extraction, but I think that's SCMS in general. I think which ever way you go, they're both awesome machines. Once you have one in your shed, you'll soon forget about the other one! Good luck!
