I got a response from TeknaTool today for my question on when (or if) we will see this in Oz)
Good question, Ross. Let me inquire with Auckland and either they or I will get back to you.
Please let us know if there is anything else Teknatool can do for you.
Regards,
Jon R Ford

That is more than I have had. I went looking for an NZ phone number for TT and could not find one as all contact seems to be directed at the US website.

Heh heh. And I got:
Good question, Brett. Let me inquire with Auckland and either they or I will get back to you.
Please let us know if there is anything else Teknatool can do for you.
So what Jon will be saying to Auckland is:
"I say, I've been getting rather a lot of enquiries from Oz in the last few days. You may be able to sell a few units ther you know."

so this is designed for woodworking yet they've followed everybody else and put the small friggin table on it for metalwork not a decent sized one for woodworking????
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .

I don't think it is designed solely for WW as it has auto tapping functions built in and I doubt you will see many manufacturers built a dedicated DP just for WW as it would restrict the market they could sell it too. It would be nice to have the option either of an accessory table available to purchase or the main table being able to be specified in size before purchase though. I for instance use my DP 50/50 so I would prefer a conventional table with a drop on WW accessory table.

Same here, my cross slide vice sits on the table and whenever W Working a wooden table just gets clamped into the vice. Cross slide still works under the table which is really handy for positioning timber.
I wonder if the proximity sensor can be switched off/adjustred - I often have my hand close by while its turning at slow speeds.
Also what is it sensitive to - if its metal what happens when the chuck is spinning close to a piece of metal.

All your questions answered
Well nearly all
Maybe not.
Based on the published specs, the new Nova drill press uses the same motor as Technatool's 1644 lathe.
this is the supply plate from a 1644 lathe for sale in Canada today

Thanks Ian. Nothing really conclusive about the deceleration on reaching the depth stop. To quote from the manual:
The “User Set Depth” feature allows the user to quickly set the drilling depth. This is essentially an electronic depth stop that will give warning beeps when approaching the set depth and stop the motor when the depth has been reached. ....blah blah..... When drilling to the set depth, the machine will start beeping at 0.5” (or 10mm in Metric mode), and the beeping will become more rapid as the drill gets closer to the set depth. The motor will finally turn off once the set depth has been reached and the machine will revert to idle.
Comment out to the side:
Comment [S1]: The stop and reverse function was causing issues before, so it was removed, we may look to implement it later via software
So it sounds like they used stop and reverse at the required depth but that was causing some kind of difficulty.
