I am looking at getting a new sander and I'm bewildered by the variety. There's random orbital, orbital, 1/3 sheet and finishing sanders.
I already have an Ozito belt sander and a Makita finishing sander 9045N.
For a general purpose sander would a ROS be the way to go?
Will a ROS give a better finish than the Makita will. If so will an Ozito be up to the task or should I outlay extra $$ and get a Makita?

True finishing sanders only move the plattern forwards and backwards; the overwhelming majority though are simply orbital which means the plattern moves in tiny circles. The finer the circles the better the finish but the slower they are.
A ROS still moves the plattern in a little circle but it is also able to rotate freely. Used properly an ROS produces an almost perfect finish.
Ok; to be frank the finish you can get with your Makita will be hard to beat by a cheap ROS. I would recommend you either use your Makita and finish off by hand or buy a quality ROS. Don't bother with Ozito or Ryobi; stick to one of the better know brands such as Bosch, Makita, Dewalt etc. I have an AEG and it works fine for me. Good quality abrasives and good dust extraction are equally if not more important as the name on the side.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.
