Default Sherwood 6 x 9in Belt/Disc Sander - trimming the disc velco backing?

    Hi Everyone,

    Just received a 6 x 9 Belt/disc sander.
I have installed the velcro disc to the 9 inch round backing plate, the velcro is ever so slightly bigger and i have not got it exactly in the middle.
My question is, is it ok to trim the edge of the velcro backing off the disc or will the disc start to fray or come apart??
I feel that it making the machine vibrate a small amount?

I would like to hear from your experience.

    Regards
    Stephen

On my 12" disc I did the following.
Placed Stanley knife with a new blade (VI) upside down onto the table (with blade pointing UP) nearby where disc is turning down.
Attached a clamp to the knife so you have something more than the knife itself to hang onto.
With care, slowly bring the knife blade up against the velcro edge and it should cut a perfect circle in the velcro backing plate and you should be able to peel away any excess.

Thank you very much, I was just a little unsure.
Thank you for the information on the technique, great!
