Sliding compound mitre saw
G'day All.
I know there has been a few post about this already but I would like an updated opinions from some of the members.
Best SCM saw for around the $1000 mark.
- dual compound wanted
- quality machine that is accurate and long lasting
I have been looking at the following models
Bosch Professional GCM 12GDL
MS305DB Milwaukee 305mm Slide Compound Mitre
Dewalt DW718 305mm Slide Compound Mitre Saw
Hitachi C12LSH(H1) 1520W Slide Compound Mitre Saws
Should a makita be in here?
I like the bosch and the dewalt at the moment but would love to hear what everyone thinks is the best saw?

I have the 12" Makita which I use just for hobby purposes but it is an awesome machine. Very accurate straight out of the box. A nice fine cut with the supplied blade.
I understand that the Hitachi is a good unit also but I only have my own experience over a couple of years with the Makita.
I bought mine from Bunnings after getting them to exercise their 10% price guarantee (which they did very cheerfully) when I presented them with a competitor's sale catalogue. You need to be quick to act though when the sale catalogues arrive in your mail as Bunnings will mark their price tickets at just $5 under the competitor's price if they learn of the sale price before you act.

I agree with Charleville. The Makita LS1214 is hard to go past for that money. Next and probably best is the Festool LS120 Kapex. But that's about $1,600. Very cool machine though!

Rob

You will probably see Bosch, DeWalt and Makita at Bunnings and Milwaukee and Hitachi at Trade Tools.
Not being a tool hound, I don't know who sells what but I should also imagine that the larger Mitre 10 stores will have some. I don't know what Masters sell. Glenfords was also a seller of such things but they closed down a few months ago.
Part of the fun is looking though.
Wherever you go, ask this vitally important question, "Is that the best price that you can do on that tool?" They will all expect that question and will usually scurry off to the computer and do some magical pressing of keys before saying that they can discount the tool a little further.

Good stuff
I have the c12lsh Hitachi and can only give it the highest recommdation. It is a faultless performer and I have had several others to play with over the years. I do not intend to bag any brands on this forum.
Regard Mike

I cant comment on the accuracy as I only have a Makita CMS but I like the mechanism of the Bosch because it doesnt have the rails sticking out the back, they can take up a lot of workshop space if you want to put it near a wall

I have the Makita LS1214. I echo what Charleville said about.
Haven't used any others so can't compare, but if they are anywhere near as good as the Makita, then they will be a good saw.

Thankyou all for your comments i really think the the Makita is a good machine and I do like the hitcahi but i think that the bosch has really good features and newer tecnology for the money. the glide system with the sealed bearings it a big plus for me. I am going to have a play with them this weekend then buy the saw that feels the best. I will let you all know and if I do buy the bosch I will do a review for the site.

I have not tried the Bosch or the Hitachi but I'm sure that both are great saws. However, they are both heavy - 29kg and 32kg respectively. If mobility is an issue e.g. lugging the saw up and down stairs, you may wish to consider the weight factor.

I've found the Bosch good for the last 18 months, but now the motor is playing up: https://www.woodworkforums.com/f155/m...sional-157036/
