Well apart from the fact you could do a web search just Like I did for you, you could try amazon.com for $45.19, or amazon for the heat treated 2 sets for $67 50 or you could go the whole hog with TC blades for $249.90 at infinity.com but they last 10 times longer. I buy off amazon all the time, best post, and quicker often and cheaper than in Australia.

However, if you had followed the ordering process through on Amazon, as I previously had, you would have got one of the following results, depending on which you tried ordering.

A. a freight cost of more than the cost of the blades, or

B. and I quote from Amazon

So, does anyone else have an alternative, source, that they have actually bought from.

I had the same problem but I found a company that will make them for you if all else fails. I will find the address and post latter today.

I live in the 'bush' and found having sharp blades was a problem. My first thicknesser was a Hafco and I had them sharpened by CSK at Deception bay but their machine took so much off the blades they were useless ofter 1 sharpening. My next Thicknesser is a Caratec 15" small commercial. I was having much the same problem and decided It would be easier and cheaper both long and short term if I could sharpen my own. After trying some home methods with erratic results I finally bought a Dan Deulen sharpener from the US. It cost about $100.00. I then purchased a piece of 12 mm perspex off cut for $25.00 and the recommend sandpaper from The Sandpaper Man and followed Dan instructions. The sharpener works well on the blades of both thicknessers. It would not be OK for repairing a chipped blade but blades that just need re honing it is good.

Dan has a web site with videos etc. It's worth a look. I am not connected with him in any way but his system works for me and has saved me more that the whole set up costs and apart from replacing the sand paper will last forever.

That looks like a good bit of kit there Whitewood, I watched Dan's video and he says you can get about 6 sharpenings even out of disposable blades, well worth the investment, I think I'll order one.

Would also be interested in that address Chook, certainly worth looking into If I can't find a resonable source for the disposable blades.

I have quite a bit of recycled timber I want to put through it so I am thinking the blades are going to get punished.

Well I didn't give up. I just ordered 2 sets from Tool King for AU$85.90 with shipping of AU$40.41. If your very nice I might let you have a set for half the cost.

You can also try woodcraft.com as I placed a pending order for them and they are even better for price and post but I put my order in for tool king first. I have looked at the Aust customs website and I can't find any reason why they would be a prohibited item to import or require a permit so I don't know what amazons problem is.

No I couldn't work it out either. I read the amazon conditions and there was nothing that specifically said blades were prohibited.
However I did find a Canadian tool shop site that sold them and I got the same sort of message, so it doesn't seem to be unique to Amazon.

PS - I just played around with Amazon again and discovered there are 6 sellers listed. I tried them all and got the same message on five, however, the last one "New York tools" would ship them. The shipping cost was $84 dollars so I didn't order them.
So. it looks like it is not Amazon's conditions but specific sellers registerd with Amazon.

Yep,you hit the nail on the head. This is exactly what I have been told, Amazon do not make all this stuff, they just on-sell, so if a particular supplier is just a local seller then they could not be bothered with international shipping.

What you did, checking all suppliers, is what I have been told is the thing to do, but the shipping will usually sting even if you do find one. Shame really.

It is possible that the manufacturer has agreements with wholesalers in other countries so sells product on the understanding that it is to be sold only in the wholesalers local market.

I used to work for a furniture importer and this sort of agreement was pretty much the norm.

Amazon don't ship any tools to Oz, and I always assumed it was a blanket hing due to different power requirements. They pretty much don't ship anything with a mains plug here, but what they do is remove the entire category, not just the items. I guess it is easier.

Sorry but they do, I buy all the time from amazon, I just don't buy electric power tools from them as I know they are the wrong voltage. I just purchased a wixey thicknesser gauge and some freud router bits, all arrived with no problems. I just ordered the two fold out extension tables for the De Walt 735 thicknesser and the list goes on.

They must have changed their policies since a few years ago (entirely possible). Either that or you ordered from a seller on the Amazon marketplace. Some of them ship here with no trouble.
