    Post What thread is this?

Son -in-law purchased a pneumatic sanding sleeve ( see below) for his 6" Abbot & Ashby bench grinder, but it doesn't fit. Carbatec do not have any adaptors.

Q1. The sleeve comes with a 5/8" 11tpi thread. Does anyone know what thread this might be please? eg BSW, UNC, whatever

The grinder has a 12mm Metric thread

The spiel on the Carbatec website for this sleeve says it fits most 8" grinders.

Q2. Does anyone know of a suitable 8" grinder that has this 5/8" 11tpi thread on the left hand shaft?

5/8" 11TPI is BSW or UNC as they both have the same dia/TPI. Also on the LHS wouldn't it be a LH thread?

Yes, they are the same diameter and thread pitch, but the thread profile differs. BSW is a 55deg thread while UNC is a 60deg thread. This means the minor diameter differs. You will need to check with thread gauges to be sure.

The older style Abbot & Ashby 8" grinder manufactured in Australia had 5/8' x 11tpi shafts. Your son-in law probably has an A&A import.
