Vibration in Carbatec Drum Sander
While doing some fairly heavy work (hard wood but very small increments) my Carbatec WDS400 drum sander developed a vibration and the cut-out pops. When this has happened in the past, I've fixed it by adjusting (read frigging around with) the motor-drum coupling. However, this time nothing seems to fix it. When uncoupled, both the motor and drum turn freely, and the bearings on both seem OK. I've corresponded with TORB, who had the same problem, but neither of us can find the cause.
Has anyone else had this problem, and importantly, found the cause and a solution? All answers gratefully received.

A bit of a long shot, but has the drum accumulated dust in the middle causing it to be unbalanced?

I recently had a similar problem with a Performax 16-32,I replaced the rubber connector(spida),problem fixed.This may not be your problem,but as you mention the motor and drum individually seem OK.

Thanks for those suggestions. There doesn't seem to be any accumulated dust, but as the problem seems to be in the coupling, although I can't see any problem, I've ordered a replacement coupling, as it's about 1% of the cost of a replacement sander. If that doesn't fix the problem I guess I'll have to stump up for a new one.

Is the vibration there without sanding the timber? If the vibration is still there without the timber under the drum, take off the sanding grit and see what happens? I doubt that the coupling would be at fault.
As far as the overload button is concerned, I'd replace it, just to make sure.
