    Default Wadkin thicknesser blades

    Hi all,
I have just purchased an (ex school) 3 phase Wadkin thicknesser and intend to run some recycled jarrah through it to build door frames in a house I am building for myself.
It came without blades fitted as the person selling removed and sharpened them for me.
He mentioned however that there are Spring clips which sit under the blades to allow setting the blade height against the tension of the spring. 2 of these are missing and the 2 supplied are different also.
This leads me to my question.
    How important are these springs?
I am guessing that setting blades without them will be difficult and have no doubt will be a topic of a future post of mine.
Where can I find some spring steel to make some or even a site that sells these things. They are 3mm flat spring steel. Am currently installing 3 phase power to energise my new toy.

    Hi,

Look in the yellow pages or on the net for a local spring maker.

A few years ago I was looking for a very specific size spring, I found a company about 3 blocks away from my work place.
They had boxes and boxes of seconds, by the sales counter.
Every type of spring you could imagine, it took about 1/2 hour and I had 6 or 7 spring that I thought may be suitable for a total of $2.
They said if I had a sample spring they could make exact copies at a very reasonable price.
They also sold spring wire, strap and sheet.

    Regards Steve.

Thanks guys. This forum is a very handy tool.
China - cant believe I hadn't looked at that website first. Reading through the instruction manual suggests the use of a bursgreen cutter setting tool to set the blades correctly. How important is it that i have this tool or can the blades be set up some other way.
