6g downhill 6010 pipe
been practicing for and upcoming test and developing a procedure on 8" sch std line pipe for gas pipelines onsite in position, in the 6g position using lincoln pipeliner 6p+'.
if anyone has any experience in stove piping id appreciate it if i could pick your brain a little, or at least see a picture of a completed weld.
cheers Klay.C

Hey Chez
Your running some great lookin beads..........enjoying the 6G?
Would be great to hear about what setup your using and how you go about this. Would be very handy for Blokes like me who are also cutting their teeth on some 6G Training...............Ive almost nailed it on Tig
But will soon be capping with Stick so any pointers you could pass on would be truely appreciated espically your thoughts about rod selection, amps, lead angle n stickout!
Great post id love to see more like these!!!!!

Hey Lou
Thanks mate, yer the 6g is alright nothing i cant handle lol haha
Yer mate my set up is as follows,
Root gap - 1.5mm
Root face - 1.5mm
Rootpass @ 75 amps 3.2mm Lincoln pipeliner 6p+ 6010
Running straight and fast with downhill progression
Hotpass @ 150 amps 3.2mm whip and pause and making sure to burn out the wagon tracks
Fillpass @ 130 amps 4.0mm fill bevel to nearly completely full
Caps @ 145 amps 4.0mm
It will be completely different for lo/his though lol
But yesterday I completed a procedure qualification and a welder qualification for an inservice hot tap .. Using 2.6mm and 3.2mm 7016 kobelco's
Il posts few pics soon. Been doing heaps of good #### at work lately and alot that's diirectly relating to my welding supervisors and inspectors course.

Hey Lou,
Been flat out lately, completed the first phase of the hot tap.
In regards to the PQR's and welder qual above they all come back good but the engineer was a little concerned about the hardness of the circ welds on the spherical tee, but all was good lol.
Well as this was my first time welding on a live high pressure gas pipeline it was a little daunting but realisticly there is nothing to about. As it was my first to the welding engineering and welding inspector were a little nervous but they were encouraging an the inspector was down in the pit with me hadith me rods and grinders and such, something you don't see everyday lol. As a precaution we were only able to weld from 10am till 3pm whilst the pipline is in its low cycle when it drops from 8000kpa to 5000kpa so it had to be done over two days .. The long seams on one day and the circ welds the other.
The job is 100% RT and 100% MPI and before the job ccould progress we needed results from the spherical tee and split tee .. All came back good, instinctively I always worry even when I know it's good maybe just cos I don't want to fail lol and cos it was extremely critical if the was a substantial big enough defect to require a cut out .. Then there goes gas supply to I don't know how many people.
NDT reports come back with and A and then we were right to fit and install the bypass spool.
They performed the hot tap on the spherical tee sending gas thru the bypass to the regulator boxes, they then performed the hot tap on the split tee and installing the stopple to stop the flow of gas so we could cut and shut the mainline. Then performed the hot tie in to the mainline .. The stopple was leaking just a minuscule amount but we had a purge line to overcome the gas and create an inert environment but the flow of the purge was to high and disrupting the arc (tig this is) so continuing without the purge .. Igniting the leaking gas, whilst its being burnt off its not able to gather around us and amount to a ccombustible level .. Got a little hot with flames spewing out of the bevel, filled it out and capped it off and waited for confirmation from NDT before they could release the stopple .. All good
Lets see what phase 2 brings .. Photos to come
