Bernzomatic OX2500TK - Larger Oxygen Bottle + Gas / Oxygen Prices

Hi,

I have a Bernzomatic OX2500TC MAPP/Oxygen torch (http://www.gasweld.com.au/tox2550kc-bernzomatic). This takes the 40Gram Bernzomatic Oxygen Bottles (around $27), with MAPP bottles being around $20. The bottle connectors are CGA600 on the Regulators -- one is left hand and the other is right hand thread so you can't mix them up.

What I would like to do is get a new regulator that allows me to use the larger 136Gram Oxygen Bromic Bottles. These larger Oxygen bottles have a different connector - M12.

Has anyone found a source in AU for a M12 Oxygen Regulator?

Please let me know of any cheaper sources for fuel/oxygen. I found the following

I'm pretty sure this hose will allow you use LPG from a large bottle.

MAPP gas was a mixture of Methylacetylene and Propadiene - hence MAPP gas .It was last produced in 2008.The name is still used but as Mapp gas.

There is a difference.

It won't produce anywhere near the temperature of the original due to the absence of the acetylene component of the original MAPP gas.

I had a cylinder of the MAPP gas .This was a long cylinder which had a habit of falling over.
Some of them fracture at the neck during use causing a 3m flame and some nasty accidents. It would the demise of MAPP gas was related to that.

I have some of the new Mapp gas in the stubby cylinder pictured.It does not go anywhere near the temperature capability of the old MAPP.

What is your application for the gas?

Hi Graham,

The wife gave it to me on the weekend for my birthday so I haven't used it much yet. I'm still figuring out what I'll be able to use it for. Being a Ham radio operator I will use it when making antenna, general brazing, cutting (not sure how this little unit will go cutting) and some plumbing work.

I fear the unit may fall well short of your expectations.

The oxygen cylinder should be good for a few minutes of work if cutting. Cutting uses large amounts of Oxy. Some reviews from users are found in the link below.

The oxygen will boost the temperature so brazing is possible, but I would suggest this will be on only fairly light stuff.
If it is expected to replace the use of an oxy acetylene torch, it will fall far short of the expected heat input.
