Found Great Steel Supplier for Small Guy
As a beginner, I have spent lots of time researching the best way to do things with Welding to get the best result, but then i realised i needed a Steel supplier that caters for us blokes that don't buy by the tonne. Bingo !!!!
I found Edcon Steel at Blacktown and it is a Welders paradise for offcuts of any nature, Mild, Aluminium, stainless you name it. It's like shopping at Woolies, shelves of offcuts everywhere. Example, You can buy M.S plate 100mm x 100mm if you want, or a 200mm long peice of RHS. You have to see it to believe it. And the guys down there talk our language, check out the website. http://www.edconsteel.com.au/ The website doesn't say offcuts, but they have heaps. Check it out girls.

Yep, you fubar and Ashore are experiencing exactly what i went through until i stumbled on this Edcon mob. Could be time for all and sundry to scout around in each of their states and leave some feedback. Boy it helps to have access to suppiers like this. mike

I must admit i didn't compare prices with Edcon but they said you only pay for what you take at the given rates of that item. If it turns out that they are 10-20% dearer, i don't mind because of the convenience and selection they have. But to each there own i suppose. At the current prices for Steel, you really dont want to pay for stock lenghts or more than u need.

You might find Edcon are good for cut to length but if your after full lengths shop around a little, they can be a bit dearer.

you could be right pipeclay, but i generally stay loyal because they get to know you and generally wont rip you off because of repeat business. An extra $30.00 on an order isn't much anyway if your getting good service. Big money can be saved of course if your buying 10 tonne and the temptation would be there to shop around and compare.

I agree with you about Edcon.
I use their Brookvale store and if you have a project for the weekend, you just ring them on Thursday with the list of what you want and how you want it cut and it will be ready to go last thing Friday or first thing Saturday. Great service, a great saving in waiting around time and it keeps me loyal to them.Cheers

brookvale cut me 10 full 9mt lengths up into my cutting list which was most 1.8,1.5 and 0.9. cost me $18.00 priceless.
plus they are 30 seconds from my factory i can put the steel on my ute and not even have to tie it on.
