Default Cheater Lens for Auto Helmet

Does a cheater lens work like a pair of specs, so you need a certain strength if your close up vision isn't so good

    OR

Does it work like a 'zoom' lens so that work appears closer and focus is always clear.

Asking the question as l'm trying to decide if one would be useful to buy or not with the helmet. But helmet is coming from USA.
    Cheers

    Default cheater lens

i've found that a 1 1/2 or 2 x magnification lens is handy if you're sitting at a bench welding all day in a reletively fixed position, but if you're crawling around on, under, around or in something your vision tends to 'swim around' a bit and can be distracting .

Welding lenses are a fixed focal length, sorry no zoom like an auto camera.
Dioptre lenses are available from welding suppliers.

To find the strength you need- what works is to pay a trip to the chemist shop (or any other retailer that sports a reading glasses tree)

Try the various glasses on until you find the strength ,ie
    1.5 through to 3.5.that suits.

Once established ,you ask for that strength dioptre lens at the welding supply shop.
Not all autohelmets may have the ability to take the lenses readily.

On some helmets ,I had to bodge a fit with some fairly crude means -gaffer tape?

    cheers
    Grahame
